Feed my lambs...or tell them to get a job

Long story short, Missouri has some kind of state funded program going that feeds poor children and some Republican wants it shut down because government spending and higher taxes rah rah rah...

As you have probably noticed by now, one of the major topics of this blog is pointing out stupidity.

Now you are probably asking, "Igor, you live in Canada, why do you care? Its just another thing Olbermann was bitching about on TV." Right on, I didn't care...until I did some research.

1) Here's the quote
"Anyone under 18 can be eligible? Can’t they get a job during the summer by the time they are 16? Hunger can be a positive motivator. What is wrong with the idea of getting a job so you can get better meals?"

Very mean. Now it gets stupid: Mrs. Davis runs a Christian bookstore. Link

I'm thinking such a bookstore must have quite a few Bibles. Now, I haven't read mine in a few months but anyways...this passage was brought to my attention when Colbert was ripping Mrs. Davis on his show:

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

Because Jesus totally cares about lowering spending and cutting taxes.....

Party of God? Nay, Party of mammon.

wait, wat?

Oh wow...political ignorance reaches a new low:

eerrrr no actually not a new low. Let's ignore the obvious faux-Russian "change" under Lenin. Let me get straight to te point:

This is the kind of crap that contributed to Nazi persecution of Jews getting the blind eye.

Let me explain:

Anyone with a shred of common sense knows that Herr Hitler on the left and Uncle Lenin on the right held totally opposing idiologies. So what does this have to do with Antisemitism? Well, in the early days of Hitler's rule, the Nazis published posters showing the "greedy capitalist" Jew. Then they published posters of the "evil communist" Jew.....wait,wat?

Of course the majority of the people who didn't know the difference took the bait.
Now a similar thing is happening with the image shown above. I am sure most Deep-South rednecks don't know the difference between the guy on the left and the guy on the right and will label Obama as a follower of both.

In fact, word on the street is some Republican has already labeled Obama a Fascist. Here we go!

All aboard the failboat!

Good Friday post

So on the day of remembrance of the crucifixion of the Lord, this stupid quote popped in my head...

"Because my attitude is that if we capture an enemy combatant in the battlefield -- or we can use Osama bin Laden -- who may have information about a pending attack. You know what, I don't have any problem taking his head sticking it underwater and scaring the living daylights out of him and making him think we're drowning him," declared Hannity, "and I'm a Christian."

- Sean Hannity

/facepalm

I got this quote from watching Countdown and it has been bothering me for a while.
This Hannity character is truly pathetic.

Honestly....how can you say that as a Christian? If water boarding is ok then so is crucifixion, right Sean? Right? Jesus died for you so that you can have a huge house and call for the torture of possibly innocent people in order to protect it? Right? Right? Not that it matters at all whether those at Gitmo are innocent or not, since torture of anyone is evil and wrong. Oh and as a "Christian" you would know that in being persecuted for your faith, you are blessed. But it seems to me that you have forfeited that blessing in order to keep your wealthy lifestyle safe.

Luke 9:24 "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it."

remember that one

I don't even know what to say anymore....

SFU Connect

Ok here's a bit of background to the post:

The old SFU email system had such an ugly interface, I didn't want to put up with it and had all my emails forwarder from my SFU account to my hotmail inbox. Then a while ago SFU got a new, much prettier, email system.

Fastforward to today:

I was supposed to receive an email from one of my professors about a homework assignment. I didn't get the email. I thought I wasn't on the class email list (it happens), so I sent the prof an email and asked a friend to forward me the email regarding the homework. I didn't get the forward either.

So I go and log in to the new system and there they are: 66 emails since December 22, 2008

Fuck me, I've been out of the loop for a while.

Is it too much to ask that my settings be migrated to the new system? Come on, both systems have the same forwarding feature, how hard can it be? Fancy AJAX, new name, but they can't keep the same settings. Kind of sad.

brb reading email.

IVT

2 decades

Yeah that's how long I've been around.

Accomplishments so far
  • 53(?) credits towards a BSc. in Computing Science
  • a web site that gets a steady amount of traffic (www.gpaboosters.com)
Overweight and underachieving since 1989.

But on a serious note, the next 20 years will be way better than the last 20. This is is pretty much guaranteed.
In the next year, i am looking forward to:
  • getting through 2 more semesters (ie racking up credits)
  • first co-op semester in the summer, time to see what the real world feels like.
  • $$$$$?
Pretty sweet. The future awaits!
